Hydrogen is used in a wide range of applications and requires a high pressure level for storing and transporting it. Our portfolio of hydrogen compression technologies enables you to find the right solution for your specific application: from the gathering of green, grey or blue hydrogen from electrolysis, steam methane or autothermal reformers (SMRs/ATRs) and for sending it through pipelines; up to the high and even ultra-high pressure levels required in storage caverns/tanks or for ammonia production, vehicle fuelling stations and for liquefaction for vessel transport facilities.
The key requirement for the safe operation of a hydrogen diaphragm compressor is that the gas chamber and hydraulic oil are thermally insulated from each other. This can be achieved by a special design of the cylinder head, using stainless steel with very low thermal conductivity, or by a combination of piston stages and diaphragm heads. The piston stages are designed with a large stroke in order to increase the volume of the gas chamber for optimal energy conversion. The hydraulic oil is supplied with cooling water and its temperature can be varied in order to limit the gas discharge temperature without affecting the compressor performance and efficiency.
“PDC Diaphragm Compressors: Setting the Standard for Efficiency
The NEA|HOFER diaphragm compressor MKZ is the ideal choice for hydrogen compression, offering dry, oil-free operation and a very high product purity. Thanks to the diaphragm principle there is no chance of seal failure and the piping can be constructed with non-corrosive materials, eliminating the need for chemical additives. The NEA|HOFER diaphragm system is highly reliable and provides an extremely long mean time between maintenance intervals.
